The following specifications are approved by CARA for redecoration or repair of external aspects of our properties:
Front Doors: Gloss Paint – Midnight Blue BS20C40
Garage Doors: Gloss Paint – Pompadour Blue BS20C33
Phase 1 Walls: Paint – Sandstone BS08B17
Phase 1 Steps (Tiles): The original specification tile is no longer available. An acceptable alternative is Welsh Brown Quarry tiles (supplied by A&C Dunkley in Winton – 01202 526206) or Heatherbrown Welsh quarry tile by Ruabon. Some surplus Ruabon tiles are available for purchase from CARA until stocks run out, as noted in Newsletter No. 38.
Ibstock bricks: Phase 1 owners wishing to upgrade their boilers may need to purchase Ibstock bricks to make good the old boiler flues. Suitable “Mixed Buff Rustic” ibstock bricks are available for purchase from CARA, until stocks run out, as noted in Newsletter No. 38.
Patio Fences: Cuprinol Timbercare Rich Oak.
Replacements for the 100mm diameter balls are available from www.tuin.co.uk and other suppliers. Repairing failed curved sections of the patio fence dividers can be easily done by making a template of the curved section on a large sheet of cardboard and using this to cut the required number of approximately 1-inch thick timber sections and sealing as described below.
Some owners have found that the life and appearance of patio fence top rails and decorative balls can be greatly improved by filling in all cracks with a suitable weatherproof wood filler before painting with a black primer/undercoat and then the Cuprinol Rich Oak top coat. An alternative treatment – which lasts longer and has similar appearance – is to use Ronseal Woodfiller (Dark) with the black primer/undercoat and then paint with Cuprinol Ducksback.
