The Phase 1 gardening club, founded and originally headed by Darren Pask and currently headed by Dianne Kendrick (No. 17) meets on the second Sunday of each month except during winter – meetings will be notified to residents by email or message. The club works principally on the Phase 1 gardens, main entrance, Avenue frontage and Tower Road up to The Mall – the aim is to maintain, rejuvenate and improve all these areas. All residents of Cerne Abbas are welcome; it is a good opportunity to meet other residents.
The Garden Contractors are still required to mow the grass, edge the borders and remove leaves etc. as they currently do within the Phase 1 gardens area, but will not maintain the plants within the Phase 1 borders described above. The extra time this gives the contractors enables them to concentrate on maintaining other areas within Cerne Abbas. Phase 2 also has (since 2022) a group of resident volunteers looking after the beds in their central gardens and peripheral beds along the Forest Road boundary.
Composting
CARA purchased three large compost bins which are set up in the woods to the right of the side gate. These bins are not for the use of residents but are reserved for use by our garden contractors – who use the bins for garden waste such as leaves which are composted and used as mulch on the garden beds. BPC Council can supply green bins for compost waste collection from our individual properties if requested via their website.
